Company description
The origins of the Bradtke house date back to 1865 when the master glazier Auguste Bradtke, originally from Niederanven, opened his shop at the "Feschmaart" in the building still known today as "Gëlle Klack". He will then be seen making the daily round trip from his workshop in Niederanven to the store at the Place du Marché aux Poissons in his team.
When Auguste died, his sons Nicolas and Jacques Bradtke took over and continued to expand the business. Nicolas settled around 1910 in the Gare district, at Place de Paris, at the corner of Rue Zithe and Rue d'Anvers. As one can read on a poster of the time, he supplemented his activities as a glazier and mirror maker with a framing service. His brother Jacques will operate a parallel company in the Ville Haute, located at "Roude Petz" at
It will be Nicolas's son, Charles, who will take over the family business between the two wars and who will continue the expansion. In particular, he inaugurated a new store, located Avenue de la Gare, which also included an art gallery. He also opened a mirror factory, located Rue de Strasbourg.
After the Second World War, it was the sons of Charles, Nicolas and Paul who took over the restarting of activities, operating 3 production and sales locations: Place de Paris, Avenue de la Gare and Rue de Strasbourg.
When they arrived in the company Charles and Pol, Nicolas's sons, quickly realized that this distribution to different places was not only a brake on productivity, but beyond that they also had to admit that the districts in which they were established were no longer suitable for craft activities.
In early 1983 Charles and Pol were able to inaugurate the company's current site in Howald, on the outskirts of the City of Luxembourg, which includes production activities, the permanent exhibition and the framing workshop. Since Pol's withdrawal from operations in 1999, Charles Bradtke, second of the name, has run the company.
Since 2013 the company has been managed by Michel Bradtke, the son of Charles Bradtke representing the 6th generation.
